Local Schools battle it out for Enniscorthy Credit Union School Quiz Honours
Enniscorthy Credit Union has always been at the forefront when encouraging young people to show their talent through colouring competitions, CU Factor singing competitions, Free Third level Scholarship draw and lower Interest rate on Educational Loans at 6%(APR 6.2%). Last Sunday saw Enniscorthy Credit Union hold the first stage of the nationwide 2015 Credit Union Table Quiz Competition.
With 59 teams of 4 participating, the Enniscorthy Credit Union Schools Quiz 2016 packed the ballroom at the Riverside Park Hotel last Sunday afternoon. There was barely room for the audience of proud parents and teachers as the numbers were unprecedented in recent years.
Credit Union Chairman Pat O’Shea welcomed everybody and thanked the 26 schools participating for their support of the quiz every year. The Under 11’s competition had 25 teams and the Under 13’s had 34 teams.
Quizmaster Bernie Morrissey from Enniscorthy Credit Union started the first round and competition was fierce from the off.  After 10 rounds the Under 11’s competition ended with a very close finish. Scoil Naomh Maodhog of Ferns came out the winners and Gaelscoil Inis Corthaidh were runners up. Marshalstown and Monageer were 3^rd and 4^th respectively.
In the Under 13’s competition the final scores were even closer with a tie-breaker to decide 3^rd and 4^th place. The winners once again were Scoil Naomh Maodhog of Ferns on a margin of just one point over Oylegate National School. St Colman’s Ballindaggin and Oylegate were 3^rd and 4^th respectively.
Prizes of trophies and cash for the schools and trophies, cash and gear bags for the winning teams were presented by Pat O’Shea, Chairman of Enniscorthy Credit Union who thanked everybody for a great day.
The first and second placed teams in each competition will now move on to the Chapter Quiz which will take place at the end of February. The National final of the Credit Union Schools Quiz takes place in early April in Dublin.
