2019 Enniscorthy Credit Union School Quiz Fuelled by the Power of Four!
Enniscorthy Credit Union hosted their heat of the 2019 Credit Union Schools Quiz at The Riverside Park Hotel last Sunday 3rd February. This annual search for quiz whizzes is in its 28th year and is one of the most popular promotions undertaken by the credit union.
A huge entry of 29 schools and 56 teams was welcomed by Chairman of Enniscorthy Credit Union, Nick Cosgrave, who thanked the teachers and parents for organising the teams for the quiz and getting them to the venue.
To Enniscorthy Credit Union the schools quiz is more than just a promotional event, one of our operating principles refers to social responsibility and contributing to the education of our members and potential members. With this event, we are encouraging local children to work together and see what they are capable of achieving as part of a team.
As a little thank you there was a raffle for 2 X €50 prizes for the parents and teachers in attendance at the quiz. These were won by Catherine Nolan and Sophie Fielding.
Nick also thanked the volunteers who were working on correcting answers, score-keeping and as quiz assistants collecting answer sheets and also the staff of The Riverside Park Hotel for all their help on the day.
Liam Waters, who acted as Quiz-master, had everybody under starter’s orders just after 3pm. There were 2 quizzes – one for Under 11’s and one for Under 13’s. As Enniscorthy Credit Union had more than 20 schools represented in the Schools Quiz this year, both the winner and the runner up in each quiz is sent forward to the next level of the quiz – Chapter level – which will be held in early March. The winning teams from that gruelling competition will make it through to the Grand Final at the RDS, Dublin on Sunday 7th April, 2019. Enniscorthy Credit Union had a national finalist in the Under 13 quiz last year – Caim National School.
The quality of answering and level of knowledge amongst these primary school kids was impressive and after a number of tie-breaks to decide 2nd and 3rd, and 4th place in the Under 13 quiz and 4th place in the Under 11 quiz, the Adjudicator announced the following winners of the 2018 Enniscorthy Credit Union Schools Quiz:

1st Place Murrintown National School
